Absar Ahmed Absar Ahmed

an introduction.

i’ve been thinking

I’m Absar, a first-year biomedical engineering, premed student at the University of California, Irvine. That’s a lot of syllables, so I prefer to say BMEP at UCI.

My name is Arabic for “good vision.” That sounds like I’m destined to be an optometrist, so I pretend it means “the one who sees all.” I still have to wear glasses a lot, though.

I’ve done a lot of things in my life and still have much more to do and don’t really know what I want to do. But, here’s a few:

  • Aspiring biomedical engineer, but more on the bio and research side than building brain implants and cyborgs. A big fan of the scientific method and engineering process. Maybe one day in the distant future, I’ll be working in the R&D of the bleeding edge of BME. Pun intended, if I end up reaching my dreams of cardiology, too. Getting really into reading research articles at the moment because it’s the closest I’ve gotten to participating in science beyond experimenting with my own allergies to mint and propylene glycol. I’ve come to UC Irvine to change that.

  • (Former) professional musician. Playing the piano since I was 4 and constantly studying music in some way since, I’ve worked part-time as a music teacher, film composer, record producer, and music business analyst. While in high school, I wrote, arranged, produced, and marketed two of my own albums as an independent artist. I see my music both as a way to immortalize my emotions and ambitions at a point in time, and also a way to connect with my students, peers, mentors, and the masses on a personal level. Currently, my biggest musical engagements are freestyle rapping in the dorm showers badly and talking too much about music to anyone who asks. (Uni work has slowed my creativity a lot.)

  • Big Minecraft fan. Been placing blocks for 12 years now, and I still do when I have the time.

I’ve had this website for a couple years now but keep having to make it look professional for English professors; that’s why this page is very serious and formal and academic and the others are, well, different. I figured I pay too much to own this dope domain not to use it, so as I age and involve myself in new creative and scientific pursuits, I’ll probably just keep tacking on more subheadings.
